Slots

What is a casino without slot games? Slots are by far one of the most popular gambling games you can find at any gambling establishment, online or offline. That is why here at V3 online casino, we have invested in providing you the best slot games in Malaysia. When someone enters a casino and they want a quick gamble, they head over to the slot machines. It’s simplicity is the main reason why it is the most played game in a casino. If you head to any offline, built up casinos, you would see that the slot machines are all taken.

The first ever slot machine was created way back in the year 1891, by the Sittman and Pitt company in Brooklyn, New York. Although back then it wasn’t classed or named as a ‘slot machine’, rather than a mere gambling machine. However, this invention would be the precursor to the slot machine we know and love today. The machine had five drums that contained poker cards in it with a total of 50 faces. Even then, the machine was extremely popular and many bars in New York city had at least one or two of them in their establishments. It was simple, players would insert a nickel into the machine and pull a lever, when in which the drums would spin and the player would hope for a good set of cards to show up. Back then there was no payout in cash for winning, so if the player won at this game, their rewards may vary depending on the cards they get. For example, a royal flush would see the player receiving a free cigar or drinks, a pair of kings might get the player free beer. It all depended on the establishments themselves. Sometimes to increase the winning odds for the house, establishments would sometimes remove two cards from the deck, usually the ten of spades and jack of hearts. This was to double the odds of the player winning a royal flush. They would also at times rearrange the drums to further reduce the chances of someone winning too. Those sneaky buggers…

However, due to the fact that there were several numbers of possible wins in an original game of poker, it became nearly impossible to think of a way to create automatic payouts for all the winning combinations. So, somewhere between the years 1887 and 1895, a Charles Fey of San Francisco came up with an automatic mechanism that was much simpler. This new simple machine consisted of three spinning wheels, which had 5 symbols all together. The symbols consisted of horseshoes, spades, diamonds, hearts and a Liberty Bell, which was also the given name of this new machine. In replacing the original ten cards and five drums with 5 symbols and three drums, the chances and complexity of planning a win was reduced. This allowed Charles Fey to develop an effective payout mechanism. Among the symbols present in the wheels, three bells would garner you the highest win with the biggest payoff, ten nickels, which were 50 cents. At that time 50 cents was quite the win, not a lot, but a win that will surely put a smile on whoever got it. The Liberty Bell machine saw great success and was the cause of the birth of the mechanical game machines industry. Eventually, gambling devices were banned and became outlawed in Charles Fey’s state of California, but he was still trying to keep up the demand for them elsewhere! The machine was so popular and famous, that other slot machine makers made copies based on the Liberty Bell. One such famous copy was made by the manufacturer, Herbert Mills. This machine was also called the “Liberty Bell.” By the year 1908, their “bell” machines could be found in various saloons, barber shops, bowling alleys and even brothels around the United States. You can find early machines in the Nevada State Museum today.

The Liberty Bell machines that were produced by Herbert Mills used the same symbols of the original one by Fey. But another version with patriotic symbols such as the American flag and a wreath on wheels appeared, and another one that was named the Operator’s Bell has an optional gum vending machine. The Operator’s Bell gave our fruit flavored gum and the symbols that were seen on the  wheels were pictures of fruits such as cherries, oranges, lemons and plums. The symbol of the bell was still retained along with a picture of a stick of Bell-Fruit Gum. These symbols were rather popular and the same symbols were found on other slot machines made by other companies.

In order to avoid laws that were set against gambling in a number of states at the time, the giving out of food prizes was a common technique. Because of this, courts often regarded a number of gumball and vending machines to be mistrust or suspicious. After two significant court cases, mint vending machines were declared a gambling machines because they were manufactured to sometimes give out tokens that could be used to get more candy. Even though the machine did in fact display what the result would be on the next use, the court ruled that the vending machine might create the tendency for someone to gamble.

The first electromechanical slot machine came up in 1963, and was manufactured by Bally Entertainment in the US. The machine was named, ‘Money Honey’ and due to the overall electromechanical approach to most things in the 1960s, Money Honey became the first machine with a bottomless hopper and could automatically give a payout of 500 coins without the assistance of an attendant. Money Honey’s popularity was what caused the predominance of electronic games similar in nature. It was also around this time that the lever, which has become a key identifier in modern slots, began appearing as parts of the machines.

The slot machine industry took it to another level in 1976, with the introduction of the first ever video slot machine, developed in Kearny Mesa in California by a Las Vegas based company, Fortune Coin Co. The machine consisted of a modified Sony Trinitron colour receiver for the display. The prototype was then mounted on a full-sized show-ready slot machine cabinet. The first production units saw their first trial in the Hilton Hotel in good ol’ Las Vegas. I mean, what better place to start testing new gambling technology than in Sin City itself?

The machine eventually got approval from the Nevada State Gaming Commission and its popularity rose in the Las Vegas Strip. In 1978, Fortune Coin Co. was purchased by International Gaming Technology, or IGT.

‘Reel Em’ In’ was the first slot machine to offer a “second screen” bonus round, it was developed in 1996 by WMS Industries. But, these types of games have actually  first appeared in Australia in 1994 in the form of a game called “Three Bags”. For this machine, the display changes to a different game where the player could win an additional payout.
